Joomla hardening extensions - extension configuration

  1. CUpdater extension - Get notified when updates are available

There is a terrific and very small plugin available, which will warn you when a component or the Joomla core itself has a new version. You can configure the CUpdater plugin to send you a mail when a new version is available, so you know when for sure to log in and update your website.

The plugin is free and can be easily installed. You can install it from the Web Installer menu, like you can see in the pictures just below. Search for "cupdater", click the Install button and confirm the installation.

After it has been installed, you have to search in the Plugin Manager part of the adminstrator site to "update" - select the "System - Update Notifications" plugin, select a group (1) to which you would like to send the notifications for updates. When clicking into the field, you get the list of all groups defined on your site - just pick one. Don't forget to enable the plugin (2) and save it. You're done!
